I've Had Better

After work today I stopped in Ron's Original in Exton.  OK, it was before 5:00 so maybe I left work a little early but regardless...the place was busy.  No seats at the bar.  Doesn't anyone work any more?  I had a Full Pint Rumplepilsen.  It was OK, but geographically halfway between Victory Brewing and Sly Fox you better bring something better than that.  This is the land of great American pilsners.  I left because a seat at the bar did not present itself and is my custom...I left.

I found myself at the Drafting Room in Exton.  I easily found a seat at the bar.  First up was an IPA from Sam Adams.  It was OK...not great.  Why are they so successful year after year producing mediocre beers?  Up next was another IPA from Tall Grass.  It too was just OK.  I ended with a  G'Night from Oskar Blues.  I didn't enjoy this one tonight.

I am so looking forward to tomorrow.  Maybe a revisit to Prism Brewing or maybe that thing at Teresa's in Wayne.  We shall see.

Another TJ's Friday Night

I stopped into TJ's in Paoli last night after work and started with an Oskar Blues G'Knight (formerly Gordon).  This is a pretty good DIPA.  I followed with a Brew Free or Die IPA from 21st Ammendment.  This was another nice beer.  Not the best IPA I've ever had but certainly a beer that I would buy again.

Just Another Day

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny albeit windy day.  A perfect day to go to the Craft Ale House in Limerick and have lunch and a beer or two.  First up was a Saison Cazeau from Brasserie de Cazeau.  This is a very delicate white beer so have this one before enjoying something else.  This was a beer you could have several of on a hot Saturday afternoon.  You might say a lawnmowing beer (but a good one).  I then ordered a short rib sandwich (awesome as usual) and an Old Chub Scottish Ale from Oskar Blues to go along with it.  This was a good choice to enjoy with my sandwich.  I ended with a Maracaibo Especial from Jolly Pumpkin.  What a great ending.  This is a fine beer.  They call it a Belgian-style brown ale.  I thought it was more in the style of a Flemish Sour (only not as sour).  If you enjoy sour beers and would like to get a friend to enjoy them this would be a good starter beer.  That is nothing against this beer.  I thought this was an awesome beer.  It's just that there was a slight sourness to it (that I loved).  I had to stop at a couple of stores on the way home and get gas for the car and by that time I built up quite a thirst.  So a quick stop in at the Sly Fox in Phoenixville was in order.  I had a tall Royal Weisse.  That will cure a thirst.

Room for a Draught

I had time to stop in at the Drafting Room in Exton tonight to enjoy a beer or two.  First up was The Wise ESB from Elysian Brewing Company.  I really enjoyed this one.  Especially the mouth feel and the thick creamy head, not to mention a nice hop flavor worthy of the style ESB.  I followed this with a Gubna from Oskar Blues Brewery.  I enjoyed this one quite a bit as well but it occurred to me that I may have just enjoyed that high alcohol content and not necessarily the taste.  I'll have to give this one another shot in the future.  With a little luck I will make it to Union Jack's Inn on the Manatawny tomorrow for lunch.  Gosh I hope they still have the Jolly Pumpkin on.

What To Do on a Gorgeous Saturday Afternoon

What a beautiful Saturday afternoon.  As my wife and kids were leaving for a visit with my in-laws upstate I told her it was such a gorgeous day I think I'll go to the Craft Ale House in Limerick.  And that's what I did.  I had a Dogtown Pale Ale from Lagunitas.  I have had this beer before and it is an excellent pale ale.  There are IPA's out there that are not as hoppy as this pale ale.  I ordered a short rib sandwich and Gordon Imperial Red / Double IPA from Oskar Blues Brewery.  Both were excellent.  I heard a lot of people at the bar talking about yard work and I don't have any shortage of yard work at my house.  So after only 2 beers I decided to head home and do some work in the yard. 

Saturday at the Craft Ale House

I had the opportunity to visit the Craft Ale House in Limerick Saturday afternoon.  It was me and my 3-year-old daughter.  I started with an Oskar Blues Gordon IPA and she had a Sprite.  This is a pleasant IPA.  Next I tried a Stone Double Bastard.  This is big alcohol and big malt.  You could make a meal out of this one.  I ended with a Coronado Red Devil.  This was not as good as I remembered.  There was a flavor that I didn't care for.  It may have something to do with the beers that preceeded this one.  I'll give it another shot in the future. I'm told the Sprite was satisfactory.
