We went to Union Jack's Inn on the Manatawny on Saturday afternoon. Originally we were all going to go in but that plan fell apart on the way there. So I went in by myself. First up was an Avant Garde from The Lost Abbey. Again, this was a very good beer but not the kind of great beer you think of when you think about The Lost Abbey or Port Brewing. So I followed that with a Hophead Red from Green Flash. This is a fine beer indeed. Exactly what the doctor ordered.
On Sunday I fell off a ladder. Saturday was the better day this weekend.

Good Beer Free
I hadn't been to TJ's Restaurant and Drinkery in what seems like a very long time. I also noticed that they had a couple of good ones on tap so I decided it was time to visit. I asked for a Jack D'or from Pretty Things. This is a nice Saison. I think it is interesting that Pretty Things is a gypsy brewer. Maybe I should be a gypsy brewer. How do you go about getting a gig like that? Anyway, the Jack D'or kicked but at least I got a little free beer...the half glass or so that was in my glass when the keg kicked. Next I asked for a Little Sumpin' Sumpin' from Lagunitas. It was awesome as usual. Love that pine and grapefruit combo. I had a quick taste of Newbold IPA from Philadelphia Brewing Company. They need to work on that one a little bit. I'll try it again within the next year or so to see how they are doing. I finished with a Hop Head Red from Green Flash Brewing Company. This is a very good American Red Ale. Hoppy as you might expect with a name like that. It was a great way to end the visit.

Great Friday Night
After work this evening I needed to bring some pizza home so I thought Uno's in Exton would be a good place to get it. So a quick stop in the Drafting Room was in order. I started with a West Coast IPA from Green Flash Brewing Company which was very good as usual. I then had a cask-conditioned Hop Wallop from Victory Brewing Company. This too was very good. Unfortunately I had to leave to pick up the pizzas but later in the night I was sent out to the grocery store with THE LIST. On the way to the grocery store I got really thirsty so I stopped into the Sly Fox in Phoenixville. I had a Keller Pils which was very, very good. I followed that with a solid Pughtown Porter. Then off to the grocery store. It was a great Friday night.

Green Flash or Free Glass?
Today was a trip to the playground but on the way all three kids fell asleep. Not wanting to waste a golden opportunity I pulled into Union Jack's Congo Hotel in Bally. I ordered a West Coast IPA from Green Flash Brewing Company. Yeah, this is a really good IPA. I think the last time I had one of these it was at the Congo Hotel that time as well. I almost ordered a Bock fromYuengling Brewery. They were having a "keep the glass" special. I decided to go with the Green Flash and forego the free glass. Maybe some other time.

Fast Weekend
Well that weekend came and went pretty fast. I did manage to get up to Union Jack's Inn on the Manatawny. As usual, I had 20 minutes before my wife was coming to pick me up so I made the most of it. I started with a Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Extra. This is a really good double IPA. Nice hop flavor and plenty of alcohol at 8.7% avb. Next up was a Green Flash Barleywine. I found it to be kind of harsh tasting, mabye a little green. Put this keg in the cellar for about two years and I'll bet it will mellow into a really nice barleywine.

Who Waits Until 4:00 to Open on a Saturday???
We are out and about on this gorgeous Saturday afternoon and we decide to stop at Ott's Greenhouse in Schwenksville, PA. My 3-year-old falls asleep in the car so I continue to drive up the road to have a beer at Ortino's Northside in Zieglersville, PA. For probably the hundredth time I stopped here and it is closed. It is always closed. How can you be closed at 3:00 on a Saturday afternoon? And while I'm complaining, how can you put a round-about in the middle of PA-73? This is America for crying out loud. Even New Jersey figured out that these things are ridiculous. Regardless, I drive a little further and find myself at Union Jack's Congo Hotel. My wife drops me off and continues to drive around with the kids. I ordered a Green Flash West Coast IPA. I have had these before and it is a very nice beer. I then sneak in a Lagunitas Lucky 13 before my ride comes back for me. It is a nice, but dark IPA kind of beer.
Eventually we make our way to Ott's Greenhouse and enjoy a walk among the plants, flowers, pumpkins, hardy mums etc.
Now that it is past 4:00 I decide to go back to Ortino's Northside and give them another shot. They are actually open if you can believe it. I have a Troeg's Nugget Nectar from the hand pump. It is OK, not great. It may have had a slight infection. Next up I order a Port Brewing Company Panzer Pils. This is a fine pilsner and a very deceitful one as well. You would never guess this little gem had an ABV of somewhere around 9%. In between beers we manage to order dinner. I got the eggplant parmesan sandwhich and my wife gets some kind of salad with shrimp. My daughters split an order of hot wings. Everyone seems pretty satisfied.
